In a thrilling development, the Surgery Department at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has received full 5-year accreditation for its Membership and Fellowship Programs for the General Surgery Unit, from the West African College of Surgeons, effective June 2024! Additionally, the Urology Unit proudly secured full 5-year accreditation for its Fellowship Program, while the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit achieved a commendable 2-year accreditation for its Fellowship Program.

This recognition highlights RSUTH’s outstanding dedication to excellence in surgical education and patient care, marking a major milestone for the institution.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, expressed his enthusiasm over this achievement, noting that it will significantly enhance the department’s educational offerings and solidify the hospital’s dedication to exceptional healthcare for the Rivers community. He extended heartfelt thanks to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, and Honorable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Adaeze C. Oreh, whose steadfast support and guidance were crucial in this accreditation journey. Their leadership has fostered a vibrant environment for medical training at RSUTH.

With these accomplishments, RSUTH’s affirms affirms its place as a leader in surgical training and patient services, paving the way for innovative advancements and an expanded pool of skilled specialists ready to deliver exceptional care to the Rivers People.
